Eater Detroit stopped by today and snapped some excellent photos of Dime Store’s interior.
Dime Store was designed by Birmingham, Michigan-based architects Ron Rea and Roman Bonislawski. They drew inspiration from the mid-20th century when dime stores, or five & dimes, were popular destinations for shoppers in Detroit.
Vintage touches can be found throughout the space, including an old candy machine, 50+ year old school chairs and even a yellowed Eisenhower poster.
The hand-painted murals on the walls represent the “head” and “tail” of the Mercury Dime, which was in circulation in the first half of the 20th century.
